Where/how to save app data?

What is the suggested methodology for saving Unity game/app state data? World anchors save object location, but if gameobjects have other metadata, or I have other app data collected, where/how do I store that? I'm leery of creating xml files, because I can't even browse files on the HL or otherwise examine file structure. Maybe this exposes my lack of understanding development for mobile Windows apps... What resources should I be aware of?
