How do I make a tagalong menu with 3 buttons?

I'm new to HoloLens and developing in Unity.

My goal is to create a menu that has 3 buttons. The menu should stay within the sight of the user (i.e. tagalong). How do I do this?

Here's what I've tried: currently I've made a canvas with a panel and 3 buttons. The problem is tagalong part. If I use the Academy.HoloToolkit.Unity.SimpleTagalong script from https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/holograms_210, the tagalongCollider is being set to null, so GeometryUtility.TestPlanesAABB(frustumPlanes, tagalongCollider.bounds) inside CalculateTagalongTargetPosition throws an exception.

If I add a BoxCollider component to my panel, that fixes the exception, but then it's very laggy. I've read this lag is to be expected https://forum.unity3d.com/threads/ui-image-box-collider.296278/ and so maybe Unity UI shouldn't be used when BoxColliders or physics is needed.

Thanks in advance!
