Spatial Understanding-Feature Overview self scanned room model not showing

Hi! I'm am trying to play around with the Spatial Understanding Feature Overview Project and I seem to be unable to use my own scanned rooms with this project by adding their .obj file into the Object Surface Observer. The only room scan that seems to work is HoloToolkit\SpatialMapping\Tests\Meshes\MediumRoomWithHomeFurniture.fbx. I also tried converting my .obj to a .fbx which made no difference. Is there something that needs done to the room meshes to make them compatible with this demo project? Thanks!
