Login without the HoloKeyboard ?

edited May 2016 in Questions And Answers

Is there any biometric authentication mechanism. Heck, I still have not seen a login prompt since the initial setup... I am thinking that it will be very cumbersome to have a pool of HoloLenses that require the airtap (or clicker) plus holoKeyboard to type a username and password every time. I would have expected to see a new login prompt every time I remove the hololens from my head. And had hoped for a biometric login when I put it on (userID confirmation, then biometric authentication.

I'd love to see an iris recognition like on the Windows Phone. Hopefully, ya'll already have a camera looking at the eyes for inter-ocular spacing and just have to add an IR LED.

I want people to be able to just place the HoloLens on their head and it logs them in.

By default, you're only prompted for credentials after a major update. However, you can change this in the Settings app (Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options). You can use voice with the keyboard too, which might be a bit faster than gaze/gesture.

I was afraid that was the answer. No biometric auth. I saw recently that a Bluetooth device may be used to authenticate in the Enterprise on a Windows Phone. That could be useful. Or maybe an NFC tag, although, I have no clue if the NFC readers are in the hardware.
