 Spectator View – Success with Projector 
 
There are obviously limitations on cost, but also the early age that pupils are introduced to HoloLens. The average seems to be age 13 years and above. Therefore to show this technology the school children another way has to be found. 
 
Many school have overhead projectors capable of displaying output from PC and Laptop. Therefore using Spectator View software and the HoloLens Emulator seemed like the way forward. 
 
Following the set up instructions for the Spectator View - Compositor, the OpenCV USB 3.0 device was chosen and built in Release, x64 in the latest version of Visual Studio 2015 and copied into the Unity 5. 
 
The HoloLens Emulator IP address was used as the Share address and the Share Server stared in Unity. 
The USB 3.0 device was the Kinect 2 for Windows PC, as a camera, which is quite familiar to school children. The Spectator Compositor was started from inside Unity, the Composite screen was set to full size. 

In front of the children was a empty school desk with the Kinect camera pointing to this desk. The school projector was showing the output of the Unity Composite screen so that all the class of children could see this. 
 
When the teacher passed his hand across the desk, the children could see his hand inside the hologram and there was now great interest shown by the children. The next display was to replace this with the familiar castle from the game Minecraft ©. When the children saw the teachers finger through the windows of the castle the was lots of excited talking among the pupils. 

This display showed them the magic of holograms and occlusion, an interested feeling for what could be done was expressed by the children. The teacher explained how much more exciting this would be to be displayed in 3D, but due the age limitation imposed by the educational authorities , they would have to wait till later.

Summary  
Sometimes we need to look at new ways, like using a projector, as a way bypass obstacles like children's age or audience size. 
 
Technical note 
The PC processor needed no less than 3.0GHZ Quad Core processor, with at least NVIDIA GeForce GT 750 2GB graphics card and at least 8GB memory
This software is very CPU intense and stutter will occur if other processes are running.
