Awesome Spatial Mapping Experience in Lunar Module (Mixed Reality Design Labs)

edited August 2017 in Questions And Answers

Good afternoon everyone!

Recently, I have tried Lunar Module application on HoloLens and that was really exciting. Links:

The most interesting thing for me was Lunar Module's Spatial Mapping realization. The "scanning mode" in that application as such represents something like on this image:

I want to find out how to it actually works (was realized in terms of functionality) but in the mentioned links I haven't found anything what refers to Lunar Module's Spatial Mapping realization. If you saw that application be yourself, you should understand what do I mean, but I'll describe how it works in my point of view:

When we are in "scanning mode" we have not just static mesh but something really beautiful. That mesh animates from the point where we are gazing at the moment. And based on this we have there a beautiful effect of wave: it's very similar to how water behaves when we threw a stone there. So does that effect represents as such an animation or just some tricks with the mesh material or all together? I haven't any variants about this and wish someone helped me!

Best of all,
Andrew
