What can I do to get the right-side display to start working again?

24 hours after getting the HoloLens unit, the right side display no longer works. The left side display still works fine, but there is nothing on the right side. I tried shutting the unit down several times, putting it to sleep, and re-calibrating, but nothing works. Anyone else have this issue and get it resolved?

Before the right side stopped working I was getting a hologram with mountains stating that the unit was having trouble detecting the surroundings and gave me the option to choose from something like "scene 1, scene 3, other scene". I could be wrong on the wording "scene", but this was this was the idea.

I just remembered the wording of the message before the right side display stopped working... "We're having trouble mapping your surroundings." and the options to choose from were "Space 3, Space 1, Other Spaces"

Sounds like a possible hardware failure. However, you can try:

    • Going to settings and resetting the device.
    • Recovering the device, via the instructions provided Here

The HoloLens support team contacted me shortly after I submitted a ticket for this issue. They had me run the recovery tool, but that didn't work. They said it was a probably a hardware issue and they're sending a replacement unit overnight.

Great, glad you got it worked out, and sounds like good customer service as well!
