Start Skype from another application
Hi..
Does Cortana call command for skype work from another application?
If so, I am having trouble with it. It does not work from my applications in HoloLens. However if I say a wrong contact name, it is able to tell me that the contact does not exist. Yet on saying the correct contact name, skype does not launch. It just stays as is. Is there some changes in build settings (maybe capabilities or switching from D3D to XAML type) while building the application from where I want to call Skype?

LaunchUriAsync doesn't currently work in HoloLens to call other applications and it looks like you are encountering another manifestation of that. Hopefully this will get fixed soon.

@james_ashley Yes I understand that. Especially because Skype preview does not support URI Schemes as yet. But I was asking in terms of the voice command "Hey Cortana Call ". Skype documentation says it works even from another application. But I am not able to get skype to launch this way either. Is there some setting I have to make on my application?
Hi @james_ashley, do you know if the LaunchUriAsync was ever fixed for the HoloLens? I haven't tested it out.
Jason, Still not, AFAIK.

The weird thing is you can launch other apps... just not Skype. We can launch HoloMaps from our Manifest app (both of which we made).

Hi @mark_grossnickle
The "bug" for Skype is still present ?
Do you have any documentation about how to launch an app (HoloMaps for example), from my own app ?
Thanks

The protocol needs to be set in Package.appxmanifest then call:
https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/WSA.Launcher.LaunchUri.html
The URI should be protocol:?URI=PackageFamilyName
You can find your packageFamilyName in Package.appxmanifest under the Packaging tab.
