Why does my HoloLens screen turns purple instead of triangular meshes on AirTapping a 3D object initiating TapToPlace event.

Check your Spatial Mapping Manager component and verify that the "Surface Material" is pointing to the wireframe material in the correct location. Should be in "Assets/HoloToolkit/SpatialMapping/Materials".
@thebanjomatic Yes it is pointing to the purple colour material
@ctsholo I think Wireframe material is not imported properly/missing.

Yes the shader was missing, I imported the shader from Holographic tutorial project now and it is working. I couldn't locate it in HoloToolKit folders.
Should be located here in current holotoolkit versions:
Assets/HoloToolkit/SpatialMapping/Shaders
