Stable hologram positions in crowded places?

Hello,

I have the following problem:
In an app that is supposed to be used on potentially crowded places, the HoloLens tends to lose its space reference when too many people move too fast into its scanning area.
Most of the time it regains its spatial-consciousness after a short orientation, but the holograms have shifted considerably, which is not desirable.

Is there a way to prevent the HoloLens from losing its tracking? Or can I increase the stability of the holograms’ positions?

    We've run into this at conferences in booths that are surrounded by people.

    First, make sure you are using the stabilization plane. I believe it is automatically enabled in Holotoolkit.

    But once you've confirmed that then you could try:

    • Disable spatial mapping/updating once the app is in place. This obviously won't work for something that needs to be moving or constantly updating though.
    • Added an adjust feature so that when this does happen we can manually drag the app back to where we wanted it to be.
    • Another option could be to try to cut down on the clipping planes of the camera so it only maps items close to it.
    • Changing your space. Obviously not ideal but perhaps you could put up a curtain on one side to at least give the device some part of the environment that remains stable. (This is more if you are setting up a booth)

    Performance can help improve stability too though from what I've seen I'm not sure you can completely avoid losing tracking in a highly active area.
