Hello everyone.

The Mixed Reality Forums here are no longer being used or maintained.

There are a few other places we would like to direct you to for support, both from Microsoft and from the community.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality.

If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers, or in our Microsoft Tech Communities forums at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/mixed-reality/ct-p/MicrosoftMixedReality.

And always feel free to hit us up on Twitter @MxdRealityDev.

Mixed reality capture from 3rd-person-view camera

Mixed Reality capture is a cool function in Portal but it's from first person view. But how to make a 3rd person view camera for demonstrating what's inside the holo world.

In Hololens live demo, there is always a DSLR/production camera attached to Hololens that captures the scene of the Hololens user from third person view. You can see that camera here in the video from Build 2016.

From all hololens promotion video / live show, I think that this 3rd person view technology is very mature and widely used in hololens team.

My question:
When it will be available for Developpers? It's super useful for developers to make the live demo for their own apps in hololens for trade show and promotion video making.

hupo001: The best option for what you are looking for is to create a shared Holographic experience between 2 HoloLenses and do a Mixed Reality Capture from one of them. This would be 1st person from the one lens (the "camera" lens), but would be 3rd person with respect to the non-camera lens interacting with Holograms. The best guide for shared experiences is probably this tutorial:

    Hope that helps.

If you don't have a second lens, take a look at this thread:

More information on this would be amazing. This is a really big opportunity for the hololense and potential uses. Especially for the outside viewer since the availability of the hololense is pretty limited at this stage. If there could be some more light shed by Microsoft on this subject, that would be awesome. Perhaps some sort of direction or example, rather than just "hacking" from the emulator view.

I've heard form a reliable source that Hololens team is actually hard at work on Mini BEV (birds eye view) plugin that would allow us to do similar to what they've done at conventions / presentations.

I agree, huge opportunity. My main background is a filmmaker -- I can't wait to add hologram tracking to my cinema cameras and shoot awesome MR videos.

Hopefully Hololens team will update us here when it is ready. Can't wait!
