how to make holograms

FiremanFireman
edited May 2016 in Questions And Answers

Is there any tutorial about how to make the holograms, like these in the "Holograms" app? For example, I would like to make a cube so that I can walk around it and see it.

Thanks a lot。

The hololens academy origami will teach you how to do this, just compile and deploy and you can walk around cubes. Enjoy.

The holograms are just stereoscopic projections of 3D models (like video games) with optional occlusion from the environment. There is nothing too special about them specifically. A lot of the Unity tutorials will get you started.

Every Unity example I've seen runs exclusively, can't run anything else. Is there a good example for running a hologram like the Holograms app does?

Download Unity 5.5 beta and follow this tutorial: hololens 100

Add a 3D object -> Cube to your unity scene and save the scene. That's pretty much all you need. It's really that easy.

Thanks James, did the 100 some time ago but it or I probably didn't use the cube object. My design goal is to have a 2D UWP app with clickable icons that launch a cube based hologram like the Holograms app.

So did 100 again and it's not a cube you can run alongside a 2D UWP app like the Holograms app can do. Will keep looking cause doesn't seem like you can find the way from the forums, maybe DirectX next.
