Hello everyone.

The Mixed Reality Forums here are no longer being used or maintained.

There are a few other places we would like to direct you to for support, both from Microsoft and from the community.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality.

If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers, or in our Microsoft Tech Communities forums at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/mixed-reality/ct-p/MicrosoftMixedReality.

How to influence real world in hololens?

Hello guys,
I wanted to know if it is possible to change the color of objects in real world.
Example: I walk into a room and touch something, now how is it possible to change the color of object.
Is it possible to do this at all?

Thank you in advance

The only option I can think of is taking drugs.

Nigh impossible, I think. I don't think HoloLens really knows where individual objects are, just where.. stuff is. If you look at the spatial mapping mesh, chairs just kind of merge with the floor or even a table if it's close enough.

If you can detect the position and rough bounding box of the object in question, it would be relatively trivial to mark it with a reticle or something. Not quite the solution you were looking for but possibly workable.

Are you trying to change the colour of the real physical object or make it appear being of a different colour?

If the latter than just swap the material colour of the hologram that has exactly the shape and the position of your real object. 3D modelling and WorldAnchor API to the rescue. I wouldn't try to extract the object from the spatial mesh, it won't have a good precision.

If the former, than you may play around with how brain perceives colours based on the object's nearest surrounding and achieve certain illusion. But surely not full RGB palette control. HoloLens can only add light, not remove it, strictly speaking. But if you add light to stuff around the object, it may make the object seem differently coloured. Get inspired:
