Hello everyone.
The Mixed Reality Forums here are no longer being used or maintained.
There are a few other places we would like to direct you to for support, both from Microsoft and from the community.
The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.
For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality.
If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers, or in our Microsoft Tech Communities forums at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/mixed-reality/ct-p/MicrosoftMixedReality.
And always feel free to hit us up on Twitter @MxdRealityDev.

Re: HoloLens Development Edition Updates (buy up to 5 devices).
@DavidKlineMS Super! How about the raw depth data? We cannot understand why they are blocked by HoloLens compared with Kinect. With spatial mapping data, the game development may have no problem at all. But, in order to recognize and measure objects for industrial AR, at least, we have to get the scene raw depth data on… -
Re: Changing the IPD (InterPupillary distance) before an App starts
Hi @mHarris Have a look at KinectIPD This has lots of code which could be used to possibly read and set IPD. Just replace the Kinect 2 for PC webcam to calls with HoloLens camera. I have used this originally and though people say it should have special lighting I just opened the curtains and "let the light in" :D -
Re: An Hololens App design question
Ah, I didn't interpret his question that way. Integrating a Kinect camera seems rather interesting. Good job reading between the lines here. Wayne, You might have some help/support if you started an opensource project for external camera/networking piece. This seems like something people could utilize in a wide range of… -
Re: Will we have access to the the depth sensors, IR cameras, and RGB cameras data streams?
The coordinates are, but not an array of pixels which correspond to the depth in meters per pixel. That's a Kinect concept, not a HoloLens concept. The raw depth values are processed by the HPU and exposed to us by the Spatial Mapping API, if I'm not mistaken. I don't see anywhere you can get the depth as an image, but… -
Re: Windows 10 Creators Update Video shows HoloLens
The Paint 3D will be available to Windows 10 Insider in December 2016, or earlier for testing Final full release about July 2017. Amazingly Kinect 2 is already supported for 3D scanning, with YouTube videos on how to do this So I expect for HoloLens sometime after the official full release about July 2017, but then its… -
Re: the Accuracy of Hololens' slam
Hi Dan, thank you for your reply. It looks like we are doing the same thing. I'm the application engineer. not the slam researcher. I'm sure I can't make the similar slam system as good as hololens'. I fixed the kinect at the top of hololens. so the relative position between kinect and hololens is fixed. the only slam… -
Re: Prior knowledge needed to start working with HoloLens?
@Dom_62, If you are looking to work with someone (and assuming they don't have prior HoloLens experience) here are some things you should prioritize: * Unity development experience * C# experience * Some Universal Windows Platform + Visual Studio is a nice to have, since Unity projects are exported to UWP before being… -
Re: Does anyone use a MacBook for HoloLens development?
Yes, I've had no issues running Parallels for this! It's been a great experience. I just needed to enable VM nesting for Hyper-V. While I can't get Kinect support (needs dx11) for added 3dscan fun, working with VS and Unity has been a breeze. I expected to have some difficulty due to having no discrete GPU, but the… -
Re: Render 2000+ Gameobjects at the same time
The default sphere in unity has 768 triangles... times 2000 that's a lot of rendering. You might be able to do something with instancing. I've not done this with unity, TBH, but I have in native DX for rendering the Kinect depth stream as 200k+ cubes. Instancing made a huge difference. Another approach would be to see if… -
Re: How to send some data from my HoloLens to my PC?
There are a few ways to do this but the quickest would be to modify the sharing code in the HoloToolkit and use the sharing service exe. There are lots of variations on this but I especially like Michelle Ma's. The hololens telepresence article on the windows blog walks through many of the different resources for learning…
