Hey @mrmarquis9,
Congratulations on owning your first HoloLens
I have heard of a few cases where dust was trapped on the inside of the lens or the lenses were scratched, but I have not seen anything reported on the forums about users having dropped/damaged their device.
If your HoloLens is accidentally damaged or stops working properly, then be sure to use the 'Contact HoloLens Support' link at the bottom of this page:

Hey, @ahillier,
thanks for the reply. I'm glad to hear there are been no reported incidents so far. Have any advice about protecting hololens? Because I came from using google glass and it was prone to damage from even the smaller things like humidity.
I just had a second unit and it broken down within first hour of use. one of the projector/display started flashing and stopped working.

Your device developing problem should reported as this is still has Warranty and with more availability of devices, replacement should not be a problem

I have a broken unit where the headband won't retract for a fit anymore.
Got the same problem here, only mine stopped working after 2 months.
Today MS told there is no warranty at all because I purchases the developer edition....
I have had no problems so far. I have 'special equipment' insurance for the Hololens, so if they do break I can get a replacement that way.
I agree in the U,K. you have to have "Named Item Insurance" for household insurance. This covers the full cost of replacement.
The average policy increase of 20% of the item is $540 though there may be cheaper.
In effect now (July 2017) the HoloLens is over 12 months old the U.S. Warranty may have expired.
Note that in the terms and Conditions of the sale. Warranty is expressly limited to the country of sale!!. You can get it repaired but you must pay shipping via UPS with extended expedite values this pushes costs us to $560 plus the cost of repair, which some one , shocked!, was a flat fee as many Microsoft hardware repairs are, (e.g. Xbox), and that's $1000 USD for the HoloLens.
Please remember to these valuable items, individually because ordinary Household or Business insurance, would NOT cover this.
A woman's expensive full length winter coat or a mans Q kit car need individual insurance so why not a HoloLens.
Oh! and there is NOT a cheap second hand market, the EBAY sales are banned items!
